Job Title: Music Director (part-time, in person)

Job Summary: Christian Community Presbyterian Church (CCPC) in Bowie, MD, is seeking a part-time Director of Music to lead and oversee the music ministry at CCPC, directing multiple choirs—including traditional, contemporary, bell, and children’s ensembles—to support and enhance worship services. Duties and Responsibilities: The role includes selecting and preparing weekly worship music in coordination with the Pastor, planning and coordinating special music for Holy Week, Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Interfaith Thanksgiving service, Weddings and Memorials. Fostering community, engagement, and spiritual growth within the choirs they direct. Collaborating with the children and youth programs to provide musical leadership for Vacation Bible School, worship pageants, and youth talent show. The Director is responsible for the tuning and maintenance of the church’s musical instruments, managing the music library, purchasing music and appropriate licenses, maintaining expenses within the annual budget, and coordinating substitute and co-accompanists.

Qualifications:

Ability to lead a choir and congregation with music from various Christian styles including traditional, contemporary, praise and worship, and providing accompaniment on piano or organ/keyboard.
Good communication skills.
Skills in keyboard, voice and conducting.
Skills in contemporary instrumental ensembles, hand bells, children’s choirs, composition and familiarity with musical styles of various cultures within the community.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in music or its equivalent.
Capable of enhancing special music with additional instrument accompaniment on piano, electronic keyboard, guitar, and preferably on organ.
Minimum of two years’ experience directing church choirs in traditional hymns, anthems, gospel and contemporary Christian music.

Salary, Benefits and Allowances:

Salary and benefits are commensurate with experience.
The Music Director may provide music for weddings and funerals as may be requested for an additional fee to be negotiated with the private party involved and in accordance with CCPC contract and policy. The Accompanist has priority and the right of first refusal for providing the music for such events.
The Music Director may use the CCPC church building for up to six hours per week for private music lessons. Financial arrangement for such instruction will be made between the director and the pupil. Scheduling for lessons must be cleared with the Church Administrator.
CCPC does not participate in the Maryland State Unemployment Insurance Program, i.e. CCPC employees are not eligible to receive unemployment compensation from either the State of Maryland or CCPC.
